Week four: Gemini names Agentcy for the first time

In week four of our PR software AI index, Agentcy held steady at 23rd of 76, named in 23 of 430 answers. Gemini named it for the first time, recommendations rose to 16, and agentcy.com.pr was cited by all six assistants.

PR software AI index, week four: Agentcy moved from 21st to 23rd, named in 23 answers on 3 November, against 24, 14 and 1 in the three earlier runs

Every week we ask six AI assistants the same 72 questions that buyers ask about PR software and AI visibility tools, and count which tools they name. The PR software AI index started on 13 October with Agentcy 74th of 77, named in one answer. Last week it was 21st, named in 24. This is week four.

Agentcy was named in 23 answers, one fewer than last week, and slipped two places to 23rd, level with Sprout Social. A move of one answer is within the noise: assistants don't give the same answer twice, and this week Google AI Overviews answered 70 questions where last week it answered 60. Read it as holding, not falling.

By assistant, ChatGPT named Agentcy in 9 answers (11 last week), Google AI Overviews in 5 (4), Google AI Mode in 4 (3), Grok in 2 (2), Gemini in 2 (0) and Perplexity in 1 (4).

Gemini, at last

For three weeks Gemini named Agentcy in no answer and cited agentcy.com.pr in none. This week it named Agentcy twice and cited our pages in five answers.

  • Is there free PR software with a journalist database? Gemini lists Agentcy's free plan, with its 500 journalist CRM contacts and five press lists.
  • Which PR platforms let agency clients log in to see their own coverage? Gemini names Agentcy first: "Agentcy allows agencies to give each client their own login."

The pages Gemini cited were our PR software comparison, the new PR agency software comparison, our Cision alternatives page and the media database page. Last week Gemini's answers cited prezly.com, muckrack.com and g2.com, but never us. Comparison pages seem to be what changed that.

Of the 23 answers naming Agentcy, 16 recommend it and 7 only use one of our pages as a source. Last week it was 14 and 10. The questions where Agentcy spread to more assistants:

  • Which PR platforms let agency clients log in to see their own coverage? Four assistants now name Agentcy: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews. Last week only ChatGPT did.
  • Which PR software has a free plan? ChatGPT and Google AI Mode recommend the free plan, and AI Overviews cites our free PR software guide. Last week only Perplexity named it.
  • Is there free PR software with a journalist database? ChatGPT still puts Agentcy first, and Gemini and AI Overviews now name it too.
  • Which PR software do UK B2B tech PR agencies use? Perplexity names Agentcy for AI visibility and share of voice, and AI Overviews builds its answer on one of our pages. Both had dropped it last week.

The per-client pricing question held on all three assistants that named Agentcy last week (ChatGPT, Grok and AI Overviews). Grok again names Agentcy on "Which PR tool tracks AI visibility as well as media coverage?", this time as one of two tools "frequently highlighted for natively combining both in one unified interface", alongside PRCoverage.

What we lost

Perplexity named Agentcy once, down from four. It dropped the free plan, the free journalist database, the sign-up-without-a-sales-call question and the open-source tracker, though it still cited our pages in four answers. Google AI Mode also dropped the open-source tracker, so no assistant named Agentcy's open-source AI visibility module this week. ChatGPT no longer named Agentcy for "pr agency software", the one-person comms team or the UK journalist database.

On "How can a PR agency offer AI visibility tracking to its clients?", Google AI Overviews and AI Mode both named Agentcy last week. This week Grok and Perplexity cited our guide to that exact question, and AI Mode our homepage, but none of them named Agentcy as a tool. Peec AI, Semrush and Otterly were named in three answers each.

Still missing

The two questions we worked on last week still don't recommend Agentcy. "Which AI visibility tools have agency plans or per-client pricing?" went to Semrush in all six answers, then Profound, Peec AI and Scrunch in five. "What tools do PR agencies use to manage media monitoring, pitching and reporting in one place?" went to Muck Rack, Meltwater and Prowly in all six; ChatGPT cited one of our pages there again but recommended them.

What we changed

Last week we published a comparison of all-in-one PR agency software, added a table of what a second client costs on AI visibility tools to our agency guide, put Agentcy into the price table of our PR software cost guide, and rewrote the opening of our free PR software guide to name the free plan. We also corrected our own PR software comparison, which said Agentcy monitors media on every plan. Media monitoring comes with Pro.

The new comparison was cited in two answers within a week, by ChatGPT and Gemini. The agency pricing table hasn't been picked up yet.

Sources

agentcy.com.pr was cited in 28 answers, up from 24, which made it the 10th most-cited site in the run, level with shadow.inc. For the first time every one of the six assistants cited it. The homepage was cited in 12 answers, then our PR software comparison in four, and the agency guide and the UK media monitoring comparison in three each. No answer cited the index page. Across the run, muckrack.com was cited most (69 answers), then prezly.com (60) and meltwater.com (54).

The rest of the table

Muck Rack stayed first with 201 answers, ahead of Cision (194) and Meltwater (192), then Prowly, Semrush and Prezly: the same top six for the third week running. Meltwater rose most, from 163 to 192, and is now three answers behind Cision. ResponseSource (22 to 30), Agility PR Solutions (44 to 52), Talkwalker (37 to 45) and Sprout Social (15 to 23) also rose, while Writesonic (10 to 5), Shadow (13 to 8) and PR.co (21 to 17) fell. Part of every rise is AI Overviews answering ten more questions.

What we take from it

  • An assistant that ignores you can change its mind. Gemini went from nothing to two recommendations and five citations in a week, after we added and corrected comparison pages.
  • Breadth is a better sign than the total. The total barely moved, but answers about client logins and free plans spread from one assistant to three or four. A recommendation that several assistants share is more likely to last.
  • Cited is not recommended. Our agency guide was cited by two assistants on the question it was written for, and neither named Agentcy as a tool. A guide that reads as neutral advice gets used as advice.
  • Some answers come and go. Perplexity's four mentions last week became one. Watch a question over several weeks before you call it won or lost.

Next week

From this week the index runs on Tuesdays. The next run is on 10 November, and the index will show the result whatever it is.
