Most teams that look past Meltwater are paying for reach they don't use.
Settle first whether you need broadcast, print and dozens of languages. If you do, the alternatives below are close cousins. If you don't, you're shopping for a different, smaller kind of tool.

Agentcy is ours, so take the Agentcy row as a claim and the rest as what each vendor publishes. Each tool here beats Meltwater on price, contract length or focus.
What you would be giving up
Mostly you'd give up scale. Meltwater reads more than 1.3 billion documents a day in over 240 languages, across global media, social channels and AI data, for more than 27,000 organisations, and social listening comes in the core product instead of as an add-on. Press distribution and AI visibility tracking sit on the same login. The reporting, with automated dashboards and AI summaries, is built for leaders. It sells four tiers, Starter for small teams through to Enterprise for global brands in many markets, plus an Agency tier for firms running several clients.
Stay if you need print or broadcast clips, or monitoring outside English, because no published-price tool on this page does either. Stay too if social listening at volume across markets is the job.
Meltwater's contract terms
Meltwater publishes no prices and says most partnerships are annual, "with a minimum contract length of 12 months". There's no self-serve trial, only a guided demo. SpendHound puts its small-business average at $14,269 a year (updated 1 October 2026). Miss the notice date and you're committed to another year.
The alternatives
Cision is the like-for-like swap, with print, broadcast, online, social and podcast monitoring, a large journalist database and PR Newswire built in. It's quote-only too, so you'd be trading one enterprise contract for another. Cision alternatives goes further.
Onclusive is the closest match on monitoring scale, with more than 70,000 print outlets and 6,000 broadcast channels. The platform is quoted; its GEO Analytics product for AI visibility has published tiers.
Muck Rack suits a team whose real job is media relations. Print, broadcast and social listening are paid add-ons, so you only pay for the monitoring you use. Muck Rack alternatives covers it.
Brand24 replaces the social half of Meltwater at a published price, with no commitment and a 14-day trial. It's a listening tool and has no journalist database.
Agentcy is for B2B tech teams whose coverage is online and who'd rather pay monthly. It doesn't monitor print or broadcast and has no newswire.
Side by side
Meltwater and Agentcy overlap on online news monitoring, social listening, reporting and AI visibility, and Meltwater adds print, broadcast, more than 240 languages and press distribution. Agentcy's journalist CRM tracks sends from your own mailbox, every AI answer gets an accuracy grade, and you draft releases and newsjacks in the same tool. You buy it month by month from the pricing page, while Meltwater is bought on a yearly quote.
Switching
Work back from your renewal date and start the alternative a month before it, so you can compare the two on the same news. Export your media lists one by one and keep the owner and notes columns. Those are the parts no database can rebuild. Then import the lists and your coverage spreadsheets into the new tool.
Questions
Is Agentcy cheaper than Meltwater?
Agentcy is cheaper than Meltwater on every figure we could find, including the lowest Meltwater purchase in Vendr's data, $5,375 a year (February 2026). A year of Agentcy Core costs less than that. It's billed monthly, while Meltwater asks for a 12-month minimum. Against SpendHound's small-business average of $14,269 a year (updated 1 October 2026), the gap is wider still. The difference pays for print and broadcast clips and monitoring in more than 240 languages, which Agentcy doesn't offer.
Is Meltwater right for a start-up?
Meltwater does sell to start-ups, and its pricing page names Starter as the tier for start-ups and scale-ups. The terms are the harder part. Prices come by quote, most agreements are annual with a minimum of 12 months, and there's no self-serve trial, only a guided demo. A start-up that hasn't fixed its PR budget would be committing for a year before it knows what coverage it can win. PR for start-ups covers what to do before you spend.
Can I export my coverage from Meltwater?
Meltwater exports coverage as CSV, Excel or PDF, and the files arrive by email at your login address. CSV and Excel exports share a monthly limit of 30,000 documents per account, so a large archive can take two or three months to get out. Work back from your renewal date.
- Count back three months from the date your notice is due.
- Export the oldest coverage first, up to the monthly limit.
- Export each media list, keeping the owner and notes columns.
- Give notice once the last export has arrived.
Does Agentcy track AI visibility like Meltwater?
Agentcy tracks AI visibility too, although it's bought differently from Meltwater's AI Visibility Tracking, which comes inside a quoted Meltwater package. Agentcy's tracker asks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity your buyers' questions every week and grades each answer against the facts you record about your company. It also lists the publications the assistants cite, and those become a pitch list in the same app. AI Visibility Core runs 40 prompts and is sold on its own or added to Core, while Pro runs 150. How it works.
Which Meltwater alternative is best for social listening?
Brand24 is the Meltwater alternative to pick if social listening is most of the job. It monitors 25 million online sources in 108 languages, and its Individual plan is $199 a month billed yearly, or $249 monthly, with a 14-day trial and no card (13 October 2026). AI visibility, covering ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Gemini and Perplexity, is a $99-a-month add-on. It has no journalist database and covers no print or broadcast. Agentcy includes social listening from Core up.
